Per-gram prices

Gold Stater tracks the Egyptian retail gold market in real time. We scrape the local EGP price per gram for karats 24, 22, 21, 18, and 14 every 30 minutes, pair it with the London spot price converted at the live USD → EGP rate, and publish the gap so you can read the market the way a trader does. Every number on this page is a live database value, not a cached figure. If you own gold, track your holdings in Gold Stater and see the EGP value of every piece alongside the same prices you see here.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the current gold price in Egypt?
Gold prices in EGP shift throughout the day as the global gold price and the USD/EGP rate move. This page shows the live price for every karat (24, 22, 21, 18, 14) and the troy ounce, refreshed every 30 minutes from the Egyptian local market against the London reference.
  • What is the difference between 18K, 21K, and 24K gold?
The number is the purity. 24K is 99.9% pure gold and is used for bars and investment. 22K is 91.6%. 21K (the most common karat in Egypt) is 87.5%. 18K is 75% and is common in European jewellery. 14K is 58.3% and used mostly in lighter accessories.
  • Why is the local Egyptian price different from the global price?
The global price is set on the London market (the global gold reference) in USD per troy ounce. The local price layers in the live USD/EGP rate, a local-market premium (import cost, insurance, freight), and Egyptian supply-and-demand pressure. We show the gap between the two as a percentage so you can see whether the local market is trading at a premium or a discount in real time.
  • How often is the price updated?
Data is collected every 30 minutes by a scheduled job. The global price comes from goldapi.io and the USD/EGP rate from exchangerate-api.com. The timestamp at the top of the page shows the last successful refresh in Cairo time.
  • Is the displayed price a buy or sell price?
Both are shown when available. The sell price is what you pay to a dealer; the buy price is what a dealer pays you. The spread is typically 2%–5% and covers workmanship and dealer margin.
  • Does Gold Stater publish an official price?
No. Gold Stater is a tracker that compares the live local market price to the global benchmark. Official guideline prices are published by the Gold Division of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce; we surface market data so you can make informed buy/sell decisions.
